ADA Technical Assistance Program

Your comprehensive Resource for Information on the Americans with Disabilities Act, Accessible Information Technology, and more!

Wouldn't it be nice to discover expertise for your organization without having to hire staff or pay a consultant?

When you utilize the expertise of the staff of the ADA & IT Technical Assistance Centers you get just that because the Centers are funded under grants from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research of the U.S. Department of Education.

Let’s face it, most organizations do not have staff with the time or background to stay current with changes in disability legislation, but most businesses, schools, state and local governments have compliance obligations. And people with disabilities, whether the disability is long-standing or newly acquired, have questions about their rights and responsibilities in the work place or in gaining access to public places.

Since passage of the ADA in 1990, the Centers have been building their expertise and offering assistance to entities of all kinds. Some services, such as technical assistance either by phone or internet, are available free. Some, including training for your group or organization (on-line or in person) are available for nominal fees to cover costs.

Because the Centers exist to increase understanding of the ADA and other disability related legislation, they have neither enforcement nor advocacy responsibilities. They serve as educational entities for the public seeking to better understand their respective rights and responsibilities and will provide up to date information on relevant legislation.

Should a caller require an advocate, legal representation or other service not offered by the Centers, referrals will be made.

Take a moment to acquaint yourself with some of the services available through the Centers and bookmark this website. Then, when you need expertise, contact your Center – they will be there to help!

Funding for the ADA Technical Assistance Program comes from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) within the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services (OSERS), U.S. Department of Education (ED).
